42 is the Answer to Life, Universe And Everything

January 24th, 2012

Have you ever thought what is the meaning to life?  And why do people say 42 is the answer to life?

One thing is certain that we all share in common, we all will be removed from the Earth. So before we parish, we all dig deep to see what is the meaning to life in different forms.   Whether we believe in religion or not, we are all driven to the point where we have questions, such as “What is life all about?”, “Why are we here?”, What is the meaning of it all?”

The meaning of life involves a mixture of philosophical and religious beliefs and I’m certainly not an expert at explaining that, but I can help drive you to understand that references to the Number 42 as the meaning of life comes down to asking the Ultimate Question before you find your answer.

Everybody has its ideas why the Number 42 is the answer to life, universe and everything and here they are by subject matter.

  • Popular Culture:  The number 42 is, in the novel “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams, where The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything”, is calculated by an enormous super computer over a period of 7.5 million years to be 42!
  • Entertainment:  Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has 42 illustrations.
  • Sports:  The Jersey number of Jackie Robinson, which is the only number retired by all Major League Baseball teams.
  • In My Personal Belief:  This has been my favorite number and I have used it in my personal email addresses, worn it for high school football and crush my fantasy football opponents with my Riots 42 Team.

As you see, the Number 42 has many reasons why it is the meaning of life but before we start asking for answers, we need to start asking the right questions.

In the novel, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, when everyone got confused, it pointed out that no one knew what the question was, and until then, the answer would be meaningless. So it built a bigger, better computer in order to figure out the Ultimate Question. A computer which we know as Earth.  Five minutes before it was finished with its computation, Earth was demolished to make room for a hyperspace bypass.

How the does this have to do with analytic’s and what can we learn?

Asking the right questions can help you balance, focus, make better decisions , and prioritize more effectively.

For example, by asking yourself “What’s right in your life” you get a very different result than asking, “What’s wrong with your life?”  Some people never ask themselves what’s right in their life, and they lose appreciation for what they’ve got, and they blow the bad things out of proportion.   Here are additional topics based on asking better questions if your interested.

Anybody could come up with an answer, it may be right or wrong, this blog is dedicated to looking at valuable data points and asking the right questions to help make better decisions while having fun!
